Can women with Breast cancer get weight loss medications?

From my "medical point of view", there is no universal "yes" or "no" answer.
The decision is always personal and must be made together with your Medical oncologist and an Endocrinologist.
ℹ️ Here is what we carefully consider:
➡️ Hormone Levels: Many weight loss medicines affect your hormones and metabolism. If you have hormone-positive Breast cancer, these medications could interact with your treatment and how the disease behaves.
➡️ Drug Interactions: If you are undergoing chemotherapy, immunotherapy, or hormone (endocrine) therapy, adding a weight loss pill might cause unexpected side effects or make your main treatment less effective.
➡️ Your Overall Health: We must look at how your heart, liver, and kidneys are functioning before introducing anything new.
👩🏻⚕️ Our approach:
✔️Lifestyle first: We always prioritize natural methods like tailored nutrition (diet) and regular physical activity.
✔️Benefits vs. Risks: We only discuss medication if overweight is causing other health issues and if the benefits clearly > risks.
✔️No "DIY": It is crucial not to start any weight loss supplements or pills on your own. Even "natural" supplements can be dangerous during cancer treatment.
✍🏻 So, weight control isn't just about looks—it’s a vital part of your recovery and long-term health.
👩🏻⚕️If you are considering weight loss medications, be sure to discuss them with your doctor to determine the safest and most effective approach.
