🍏 At our Oncology office we give recommendations about diet for ladies with Breast cancer (BC).
Both ✔️weight loss and ✔️a low-fat diet are important in lowering the risk of BC recurrence.
A low-fat diet may also lower the risk of heart disease and may help for weight loss.
There are few tips to help women with BC to make good food choices:
✔️Eat a low-fat and plant diet rich in vegetables 🥗, fruits 🍎, beans 🫘 and variety of whole grains (brown rice, oats and wild rice).
✔️ Limit liquid calories from sweetened drinks like iced tea and fruit-flavoured drinks.
✔️ Love ❤️ everything you eat.
✔️ Remember that some fat is healthy: include 2-3 table spoons of olive or soybean oil in food each day (it includes oil used for cooking and salad dressings).
✔️ Eat at least one dark green (broccoli 🥦, lettuce, spinach etc.) and one orange (carrot 🥕 or sweet potato) vegetable each day.
✔️ Enjoy vegetables steamed or baked (instead of deep-fried).
✔️ Have vegetables and fruits more often than juice.
✔️ Choose food that are lower in sugar and salt. When adding sauces, use small amounts.
✔️ Drink 1% or 2% milk each day 🥛: 500 ml (2 cups) of milk every day are good for adequate vitamin D.
Drink fortified soy beverages if you do not drink milk.
Select lower fat milk alternatives: yogurts 🍶 or cheeses 🧀.
✔️ Choose fish 🐟 such us mackerel, salmon, sardines.
✔️Choose lower fat meals away from home ⬇️
• Check out the menu 📋 to help you make a healthier choice.
• Ask to serve vegetables or main dishes without sauces.
• Choose lower fat side dishes: simply prepared vegetables and salads 🥗. Avoid French fries or onion rings.
• If portions are large, order an appetizer as your main food, share a main food with your friends or take some home.
• Avoid buffets, if you see, that you usually overeat when there are so many choices.
