Parenteral nutrition means feeding intravenously (through a vein). It includes
✔️amino acids,
✔️carbohydrates,
✔️fat / lipids (Omega 3, MCT, LCT),
✔️electrolytes (Na, Cl, K, Mg) and
✔️vitamin E.
ℹ️ We provide 3️⃣-components parenteral nutrition for patients with:
✔️ cancer (after strong chemotherapy, during gastrointestinal bleedings, in the end stage of cancer, in a case of intestinal obstruction, during radiation enteritis etc.),
✔️ severe inflammatory bowel diseases, necrotizing enterocolitis, prolong diarrhoea, short bowel syndrome,
✔️ after some abdominal surgeries (example, stomach or intestinal resection),
✔️serious geriatric problems (geriatric patients, who have trouble sustaining their nutritional needs through eating or with enteral nutrition).
ℹ️ Parenteral nutrition can be partial (PPN) or total (TPN):
- PPN is given as a supplement to other kinds of food to replace missing elements in your diet or give you additional calories,
- TPN is complete nutrition delivered intravenously to people who can’t eat at all.
ℹ️ There are few benefits of parenteral nutrition:
👍🏻 to give your gastrointestinal system a chance to heal from severe illness or surgery,
👍🏻 for geriatric patients PPN can provide an important boost to help their bodies manage their other difficulties,
👍🏻 for people with permanently impaired gastrointestinal function TPN can be life-saving.
